Postharvest Extension Officer (North)

Citrus Research International (CRI) aims to maximise the long-term global competitiveness of the southern African citrus growers through the development, support, coordination, and provision of Research, Technical, and Extension services. South Africa is the second largest exporter of citrus in the world and is heavily reliant on CRI research and technical support services to maintain this position. CRI is seeking to fill the position of Postharvest Extension Officer (North) with a dynamic individual with a strong proven skills base, who will report to the National Extension Manager. The Postharvest Extension Officer’s role is to develop and coordinate the effective functioning of the postharvest extension network in the northern region of South Africa (KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, eSwatini, and Zimbabwe).
The main task headings for this position are as follows:
- Packhouse Extension (including site visits to citrus packhouses)
- Events and industry extension
- Reports, CRI Production Guidelines, and articles
- Remain on the cutting edge of relevant technology development.
The minimum requirement for this position is a MSc. in plant pathology, with relevant experience in the following areas:
- Three (3) or more years of working experience in citrus plant pathology in South Africa
- Experience in citrus packhouse operations
- Understanding of decay control in packhouses
- Legal driver’s license.
The following skills will be an advantage:
- Conversational fluency in Afrikaans
- Computer literacy, particularly PowerPoint and Word
- Good presentation skills
- Valid passport.
